Man missing in surf, Police continue a search

Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander said: “At midday NSRI Port Elizabeth were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following a request for assistance from the Municipal Beach Managers Office reporting a man missing in the surf at Blue Horizon Bay.
 
“It appears that while a church group were at the beach during the morning 3 of it’s members were reportedly swept out to sea.
 
“Lifeguards rescued two of the church members and requested assistance from the NSRI to assist them in a search for one male, believed to be aged in his mid twenties, who remained missing.

In a prelude to the 100-days festivities today (March 2) the local organising committee (LOC) chief executive Danny Jordan, FIFA CEO Jerome Valcke and officials, and a delegation of international and national media jetted into Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday to check on the stadium and Bay readiness.

The visit was hot on the heels of a jam-packed sporting weekend which included rugby and soccer and the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

Local performers flock to auditions

More than 200 local performing acts grabbed the opportunity to audition for slots in this Easter’s MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival programme.

“The auditions at each of the five venues around the metro went off extremely well,” said coordinator David Limbert. “This means we were able to reach all sectors of the community, which was one of our primary goals.”

He said the demand was so high that the organisers were forced to schedule a sixth audition. “All in all, we had about 500 people aged between five and 70 auditioning.”
