FIFA Happy with Bay Preparations

In a prelude to the 100-days festivities today (March 2) the local organising committee (LOC) chief executive Danny Jordan, FIFA CEO Jerome Valcke and officials, and a delegation of international and national media jetted into Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday to check on the stadium and Bay readiness. The visit was hot on the heels of a jam-packed sporting weekend which included rugby and soccer and the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

Local performers flock to auditions

More than 200 local performing acts grabbed the opportunity to audition for slots in this Easter’s MTN Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival programme. “The auditions at each of the five venues around the metro went off extremely well,” said coordinator David Limbert. “This means we were able to reach all sectors of the community, which was one of our primary goals.” He said the demand was so high that the organisers were forced to schedule a sixth audition. “All in all, we had about 500 people aged between five and 70 auditioning.”

We were always very proud to live in Port Elizabeth. The former PEM was responsible to make PE the proud city it used to be. Since the name change to NMB, the same cannot be said - PE is no more the proud city, nor a city which is promotable - least to foreign visitors!
